- ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆I am an international graduate student at UMass. I was never informed that during the summer months when we are not paid (when the bank doesn't get a direct deposit) a huge amount of money had to be put on hold in the BOA account to avoid a low balance fee. You need to have $1500 in the checking account and $500 in Savings (if I remember right)!! Summer is the time when I need to use my saved money!! When I dn't have a job! I got to know this only through a friend and immediately closed it and opened an account in UMAssFive. Closing the account was not easy either. The same people who were falling over each other to serve us when I opened my account, were not helpful or polite later.By Gayathri Hewagama, May 06, 2017
